Second the unit would take forever to make espresso.it was practically lunch before it was finished:) We have had it for under six months and we are replacing it. The biggest problem was the frother that Krups should have been embarrassed to ship. It simply did not work no matter what we tried.inexcusable at any price on a combination unit. We bought this unit to replace an older Krups combination unit that had gotten tired after many years of faithful service. What a complete waist of money. What a disappointment. We were excited to get the unit and again have Espresso with our morning breakfast. The unit was difficult to use but that would have been a minor inconvenience if it had worked as promised.
We brew at least a pot of coffee a day and more on weekends, with hubby often doing espresso for himself on the weekends too. You would have to actually check the position in or out. From the start I was disappointed with the coffee maker side.
The espresso switch lighted up when in use but the coffee side did not. It doesn't have an automatic shutoff which makes this a little more important. It seemed to leak water onto the countertop right from the beginning too. I am not sure if this is normal or was a flaw from the beginning but it made it difficult to see if the pot was on or off.
My husband and I purchased this machine less than a year ago when our beloved vacuum coffee pot was no longer available and he had broken a part that we couldn't replace. There would be a distinct sound when opening and closing- like something didn't fit properly. It quite working completely and I am just writing it off to a bad purchase.
It brewed lukewarm coffee and I like a nice hot cup of coffee, but hubby was enjoying the 15 bar espresso side and he's the bigger coffee fiend. Right from the beginning the hinge for the coffee side seemed shaky and not quite right.
The design quality and reliability have been terrible: 1) the connectors holding the coffee carafe lid are difficult to undo/redo for cleaning; 2) the lid/carafe shape make it almost impossible to pour coffee without dribble everywhere; 3) the top of the coffee maker fill reservoir "cracks" every time it is opened (fit is terrible); 4) the plastic expresso reservoir leaks water if it is left in the machine for more than 1 hour; 5) the expresso grounds holder doesn't hold pressure - I have wasted lots of $$ on pods not fully extracted. I was very mistaken. This machine is a real loser - and I will not look to Krups for any appliances in the future. I got this unit as a Christmas present. I was originally impressed with the Krups brand and thought the unit would last a good long time.
I received the Krups as a birthday gift. VERY DANGEROUS MACHINE.I will not plug it back in. I have not had any luck getting the epsresso side to work, but loved the coffee, so I kept it. I took the back apart yesterday and to my terror, as the coffee maker ran, water was running down a hose and onto the electrical wires below.
I will not send it back in for repair. Taking the back off to see what was going on convinced me that this was one messed up machine. I called customer service, ship it in and a minimum of $30 for them to even open the box, and would not give any estimate of charges. With a little over a year of use and only once a day, this is an outrage. All of the wires have been soaked over time and the plating on the bottom has corroded, screws are rusted, so this has been going on for some time. I have used it a little over a year.
A true safety issue. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. It has been leaking water out onto my counter for months. THE END.
I'll buy another brand and send this for recycling. A machine that costs this much should not last only a year or two. I wasn't even using it more than 3 times a week.
It just died for the second time in two years. When I got it back the side plastic was popped off so I had to snap it back together, but it never looked the same as it did before I sent it in. I bought this because I loved the design of the unit and thought Krups was a good brand.
Now it's dead again and out of warranty, I'm not paying to have this thing fixed. On the bright side, I'll no longer have to deal with the poorly designed pot that spilled coffee all over the counter every time we tried to pour a cup. The coffee side doesn't power on, maybe its as simple as a fuse but for as often as this happens the unit isn't easy enough to take apart.
This unit only has a 1 year warranty, the first time it happened within the year so I had it repaired (had to pay to ship it to the service center of course).
